front and back

we are back from our whirlwind vacation in washington DC. it was wonderful. it didn't start off that way due to misaligned expectations, but once we all got on the same page, it was definitely a vacation we'll think fondly on in the future. we decided that DC would be a good town to prepare the kids for our trip to switzerland in a couple of years. we could walk alot, take the public transportation, eat bread and cheese instead of in restaurants, and basically try and live like we did in europe. i took my pedometer and by the end of the trip we had walked over 26 miles, taken the metro enough to say we rode every line, and eaten at qdoba three times. that one didn't quite make our bread and cheese idea, but we didn't find too many small grocery stores in downtown DC. oh well.

because this is my blog, you'll get to go through pictures with me. you know, the kind family and friends show you, but you really have no interest in seeing because you weren't there and it doesn't mean nearly as much to you as it does to the recently returned vacationers? sorry.

i'll start off slow. we got in about 5:00 p.m. east coast time and once we got settled we headed of the see the white house. that's the first place everyone that goes to washington DC goes, isn't it? it was like a magnet was pulling us there.

we got the traditional front and back pictures, but i'll only share the back one, the lighting was so perfect! maybe that's the front now that i think about it...

i had to get a picture of this, it cracked me up. it was on the front gate.

and we had to get one with the washington monument. we got a lot with the washington monument actually.

one funny:
at the airport, ethan was concerned about the cabs he saw waiting in line. he wanted to know what "ass'n" meant. he thought the cabs were advertising assassin services. :)

don't worry, there's more. remember i'm trying to update more often...

Yeah, that's the great thing about being scrapbookers, though--we don't mind looking at other people vacation pictures and actually rather enjoy them!! Great photos--show us more!!!

Are you following me? I think you must have pulled into town just as we were leaving, and I do have to say, it looks like your family was much more cooperative at taking photos than mine was...glad you're back!

So fun! So did you push the white house button? :)

One of my friend's just took her family to DC this weekend as well. Think mine are a bit young to appreciate it still.

Love the pics!
