kits and pieces guest designer--me :)

the design team coordinator for kits and pieces emailed me a while back and asked if i'd like to be the guest designer for june. i said of course. i got to choose between the 7 gypsies kit or the scenic route kit. i already knew i could work with the scenic route papers, that's easy for me. but the 7 gypsies is a different story. i LOVE LOVE LOVE the look of 7 gypsies, but the papers are really hard for me to work with. they tend to be muted and, well more gypsy-like than i usually use, but they continue to intrigue me with each new release. so i took on the challenge of creating with the kit called high tea. it was daunting at first but i think i overcame! the kit came with a new stamp designed by the incredibly talented julie balzer. it was another thing that made me stretch a little bit, i typically don't use sentiment stamps on my pages, but again, i think i overcame quite nicely. my last struggle was the lace paper by k and company. it's way too victorian for me, but if you cut it up, you get lots of cute little accents that don't look too victorian anymore. i love it when you can work with a product and make it yours!

i want to thank rosy and all the girls at kits and pieces for being so fun to work with. it was a great experience! go check out the kits.

here are my projects designed with "high tea," starting with a wedding present. i stamped the wrapping paper (i had to sneak kraft in there somehow...) then glued on the large punched circles. after wrapping the present, i tied a tulle bow and inserted little curlicues of the different pieces of paper. they were easy to make, just cut a thin strip and wrap it around a skinny circular item (i used a candle, it was convenient...), then pull it out and make it all cute like. the card has a tulle ruffle under the circles as well to tie it all together. i admit, i wouldn't normally spend an hour and half wrapping a wedding present, but i the idea came to me on the treadmill monday morning and i thought i'd give it a whirl.

here's a closeup of the curlicues:

another way to use the love stamp using versamark, makes for a nice background... i punched all the circles to be about the same size as the circle from the ribbon, a few of the circles are pop dotted to add some dimension. i rarely do a page without journaling, but this is all i need to say here. i love this man. and just to clear things up, i stamped love one way and then stamped it upside down on the next column... it's not the word sraz. :)

finally, i did a layout about annie and how she's growing up. i know i keep doing layouts like this, but i continually find myself amazed at how well she's turning out and i have so little to do with it. i stand in awe of my daughter. i don't know if you can tell the larger butterflies are 3D, i folded them in half and stapled just the edge of the body to make the wings stand out. i think it looks really cool. and again, the paper ribbon, cute into small little flowers, it adds that little extra touch.

Very nice, Emily! I love all of it - but especially the wedding gift. I'm sure they didn't even want to open it up, it was so pretty.

Just fantastic Emily. You really conquered the task of working with 7 Gypsies. Everything you did is lovely. Thank you for sharing.

I'm sorry but lisa D ruined that stamp for me. now all I can think of is "gnoz" or whatever she said. thanks for posting your work - it's so fun to watch you go go go in the scrap scene. :)

Oh, you rocked this kit! That wedding present and card are amazing (love the tulle on the card!), as are the layouts. When I read your journaling on "Butterfly" I couldn't help continuing to feel awful about having pointed out to you that Annie will be going to college in 5 years. Please forgive me! Five years really is a long time! Really!

that layout is gorgeous, just like Annie. Sorry to say that she really looks 'grown up' in this pic.

BRILLIANT idea for the gift... Must remember the curled-paper-with-tulle concept.

Gorgeous work and kudos for challenging yourself, instead of taking the easy "Route."

You did a fabulous job with the kit, Emily!! I love the gift wrapping--if I got a gift that looked like that I'd never be able to open it!

Thanks again for working with Kits & Pieces this month!

You always know just how to make things look fabulous! These are awesome projects. Would you mind boxing me up a little thimble full of your talent . . . just so I could roll in it and hope a little rubs off on me? lol ;)

Anyone who can make their own wrapping paper is A-OK in my book. You did an awesome job with the kit! I love that you chose what challenged you. : )

Totally love the gift & matching card! I'm all about kraft paper - I've got tons of rolls we've been wrapping our presents with for years! I love the clean slate it gives you to create something special - you rocked it! And the curlie-cues are just brilliant! Will definately have to try that on my next gift!
