we are there

ok, i know i'm pushing it a little bit with this post, but with all the celebration involved in the inauguration of Barack Obama today, i'm a little nostalgic. we got to spend a week in washington, D.C. this past summer and all the different events that are being covered over the last couple of days, i know where they are. it's kind of neat. i would love to actually be in washington, D.C. this morning, but since i can't, i'll live through the memories. i don't have to deal with crowds (on the least favorite list), or the cold (although not on the list, i'll take the 80 degree days we enjoyed instead).

this picture was taken by a nice looking gentleman that ethan swears is someone important. i don't know who he was, but i appreciate him taking the time to offer to take a family picture for us in front of the capitol. it means a lot more to me today.

no matter your political views, today is an amazing day. i am saddened and frankly, embarrassed, by the divide that i have seen over this presidential election. i pray that we will all find peace today. i pray for our new president. i am excited by the hope that i feel when i think of what today means. although i do believe he will do many great things, i pray for cooperation instead of dissension (thanks mk !). i pray that he will be given the support that he deserves.

I suppose it's in the category of "dissension" that all I can think about today is those bumper stickers you started seeing about a year ago:

A Good Day.

But it IS a good day, and I'm happy it's here.

Great post, Em! You said it right... "no matter your political views, today is an amazing day." I said the same thing to hubby last night as we got into bed. And though I don't know much about Obama, so I'm not making a political stance or an opinion, but I was actually giddy inside to think of what this day means... and what it represents. :)

p.s. See you in FOUR days!!!!! :D

I don't think your 'pushing it' one bit with this post, at the end of the day this is your blog and we love to read whatever you want to write about.

When we all feel comfortable sharing views on everything we will really change the world.

Today is a good day, but hopefully only a beginning to many.

Sean (my 2nd grader) and I were both home sick with a cold yesterday, so we got to watch the inauguration snuggled up together under blankets on the couch. I couldn't have imagined a better way to witness the event.

We've come a long way. Good for us. :)

Dude, I live here and (a) can't believe you didn't tell me you were coming last summer! I was here. and (b) I promise you, you did not want to be here this week. The traffic was insane! Police check points at every intersection, stopping people, redirecting traffic. It was a nightmare, and wicked cold too. :) So, come visit anytime, you have a place to stay!

-amen. seriously. I am not a political person. But, if this country cannot quit fighting with each other, I feel like eventually we'll have nothing left to fight over.
