commentary on the documentary :)

studio calico's july kit, documentary, is online folks!

when i was looking at the kit previews that april posts for the DT, i saw the hambly animal rubons and this little book came to mind, it wouldn't go away. so i got the add on director's cut and this is the first thing i put together. my kids are a little too old for it, so it's going to be a gift. i laminated it. warning** laminating and heat embossing don't mix too well.** oh well, you live and you learn. but all in all, i was happy with how it turned out, the skunk page is my favorite.

my next endeavor was the 2 pager we were supposed to do for the 2nd anniversary celebration. this was HARD. i knew what i wanted to do, but when i had all the pictures, and all the journaling, and all the embellishments, i had WAY too much going on, it felt claustrophobic. having taken pictures of a day in our lives (a challenge posted by my friend little ducky a while back), i knew i needed to comment on nearly every picture. with that much journaling, i really had to work the design to stay balanced. once i started taking stuff off, it started to work and i could breathe again. i don't think i've stressed over a layout that much in a while. ok, maybe a few months :) i ended up being really happy with how it turned out, not so much because it was a genius design, but because it really captured our lives right now and that is the goal of every scrapbooker.

this little card was made for a friend who was just blessed with a sweet little girlie. i have been playing with a technique of using water to scrunch your paper up and make it look crinkly. i thought it might work to make a ruffle. i wet a strip of the jenni bowlin paper and ripped the bottom edge off then started gathering the ruffle. i used the basic grey magnetic board to hold the ruffle in place as i would add to it. i let it dry overnight and this is how it turned out. very cool.

i do not like phrases like this. they seem too in your face, and whatever [roll your eyes here]. i just don't like them. but this is the phrase on the back of my son's swim team shirt and when i saw this picture, i just knew it was exactly what i needed to title the layout. so i went a little crazy with the hand cutting and the machine stitching, but i do like the effect. my son has never loved to do any kind of sport, so when i told him i was going to sign him up for swim team, i expected a miserable summer. i was so wrong. i'm glad.

loved the camera paper in the main kit. so much fun! i was showing my parents our family pictures from the past year and noticed a lot of pictures of my friends taking pictures like this. i thought it would be fun thing to document. bonus points if you can name all the photographers in these pictures. and i found one more picture, so i think i'll add it at a later date, or make a mini :)

at this point, i was sick of seeing kraft and brown. i over used it in this kit. i felt drained of creative energy. i hate to admit that. i love kraft. but apparently, you can use it too much :) so i put this one together, the MM metal numbers totally reminded me of address numbers, i think i'll do more layouts of all the houses i've lived in using this idea. i'm going to add more to this on the back, all the memories i can think of...

so there you have it. thanks for reading my blog :)

you did a beautiful job. and i think you are completely crazy for your "sitting this one out" entry. don't be hard on yourself, b/c unless i'm missing something you made some beautiful, meaningful layouts. xo

Thanks for the commentary. It's so fun to hear how layouts come about and read the story behind the story. All your layouts are great and I adore the card. At first glance, I though you used fabric - really great technique. Thanks for sharing

beautiful work dearie. You know how much I love seeing myself in your layouts ;) I do, really! That mimi is fabulous -- it reminds me of that Eric Carle book - can you do it? Do you remember that one? It was a favorite here. Miss you!

OMG! Are you kidding me? I'm just in awe of your creations from this kit...blown away...LOVE them!!! WOW! How do you do it, month after month, gets better and better - guess that's why you're on the SC design team cause we all know that SC kits get better every month, amazingly so! Thank you for your wonderful inspirations:)

Wow, that's pretty fantastic. I think "It's What We Do" is my favorite, though, and you only have me stumped with one. I think Summer's at the top, and I just can't tell who's next. The rest are easy: Lisa, Viv, you & Hej. So who's the mystery photographer?

MK, the only one I didn't know was the top one so I'll help you out - the one you didn't know is Paula. Do we get to split the bonus points? :)
