look mom, i sewed on fabric!

it really is a pity. my mom spent a lot of time teaching me how to sew. and for many years, i sewed all the time. i made a lot of my own clothes because i could exactly what i wanted that way. i was really pretty good, i made my wedding dress. it wasn't fancy, but it was just what i wanted. i made my kids' clothes until about 8 years ago. then i just stopped. i bought a really nice sewing machine just before i stopped sewing, now it only gets used to sew on paper. but thanks to ronda and her daughter lexi, i pulled out the machine to create something out of fabric. a few years ago, ronda made an amy butler birdie sling for lexi to use in high school. it was so cute, i asked annie if it was something she would like herself. she was game. so this summer, ronda and lexi took annie and i to the quilting store; lexi and annie both picked out fabric for their new bags. it took me a few days of sewing here and there, but i finally managed to get that bag done. and i think you can tell just how happy it made annie :) i think it turned out exactly like she'd imagined.

now i know i remember how to sew on fabric, i'm a little worried i'm going to be heading back to the quilting store sooner than later. such pretty colors there...

seeing this and visiting amy butlers website has just inspired me to take up sewing. my mom used to sew, even teach it to high schoolers years ago. she used to make my clothes, costumes.. the whole nine yards. sadly i never learned and she never does anymore. but i just checked out a local fabric store to take a beginner class and am looking into purchasing my very first sewing machine! thanks for posting.. it's been most inspiring!!! btw.. love the bag!
